Switch Kit
Ready to switch banks? First Western’s Switch Kit makes moving your personal accounts, direct deposits, and payments quick & stress free. Use the 5 steps below to get started!
Frequently Asked Questions
The full switch process typically takes up to 60 days. The first steps (opening your new account and submitting direct deposit and automatic payment forms) can happen in a single day, but you’ll need to allow time for your employer’s payroll department, Social Security, and your billers to process the changes. Don’t close your old account until all direct deposits and automatic payments have successfully moved over.
Visit any branch or contact us and we’ll help you move your accounts, direct deposits, and automatic payments.
Gather your most recent statements from your current bank, a list of all direct deposits (paychecks, Social Security, pensions, tax refunds), and details for every automatic payment you have set up, like utilities, loans, subscriptions, gym memberships, insurance premiums, and any recurring debit card charges. Our Transaction Checklists walk you through everything to track down before you make the move.
Complete Form 1: Direct Deposit Authorization Form and submit it to your employer’s payroll department or any other source of recurring deposits. For Social Security payments, call the Social Security Administration at (800) 333-1795 or sign up online at ssa.gov/deposit. Allow at least one full pay cycle for the change to take effect.
Send Form 2: Automatic Payment Authorization Form to each creditor or service provider that currently pulls payments from your old account. Some billers may require a voided check or a phone call instead of the form. Allow several weeks for the first payment to be activated under your new account.
Wait until every direct deposit, automatic payment, outstanding check, and pending debit card transaction has cleared your old account. Verify that paychecks have landed in your First Western account for at least one full cycle and that all recurring bills have been drawn from the new account. Once you’re confident the transition is complete, send Form 3: Account Closing Letter to your previous bank with instructions for any remaining funds.
You’ll need a government-issued photo ID, Social Security number, and basic contact information. Additional documents may be required depending on the type of account.
